Scientific Studies Reveal Why Brownies are the All-time Best Dessert
1. Chocolate
The best desserts all have chocolate. We know people like apple pie and other fruit desserts (we like them, too) and we concede that cheesecake is rather tasty, but chocolate is king when it comes to sweet things. The top three things that people think of when chocolate is mentioned are truffles, chocolate cake, and brownies. We discovered this factoid during our scientific, non-biased, survey of over 1,700 six-year olds polled over snack time, right before afternoon naps.
2. Brownies are gooey
We hate to resort to scientific terms but we have no choice but to use the exacting term “gooey” to describe brownies. Good desserts are gooey. Ice cream is gooey after tempering (“tempering” is a scientific term used to describe whacking ice cream with paddles). Pudding is gooey, hot fudge is gooey – all sorts of great things are gooey. If brownies weren't gooey they would be cake, which aren't as festive as brownies. We like cake, especially chocolate cake with gooey fudge on top.
3. You can hold a brownie in your hand
Try holding tapioca pudding in your hand. Or strawberry ice cream. Bananas Foster doesn't do well either. In another scientific study we pitted four popular desserts; tapioca pudding, strawberry ice cream, Bananas Foster, and brownies in a head-to-head competition to see which dessert would be best for portability. We arranged to have 2000 students, 500 per dessert, to walk from the train station to their homes with the desserts. The student who ate the brownies made it home with no mishaps. The students with the tapioca and the strawberry ice cream made it home but were only able to eat less than a third of the dessert, the rest of it ending up on their shirts. All the students in the Bananas Foster trial jumped into a nearby fountain after flambeing. They were uninjured and managed to eat the bananas. Brownies win again!
